Poems of a Meandering Heart
Dear Readers:
From time to time, I’ll be letting you know about other books that can lead you on your spiritual journey and your journey through life. Here is a great book written by a friend of mine Sister Janet Ackerman, OP.
Poems of a Meandering Heart is an inspiring and occasionally playful series of poems that I’ve written over the years. It is my hope that they will stimulate your poetic senses and that you will find in the pages of the book the inspiration for spiritual growth, meditation, or even simple relaxation.
Poetry brings with it the risk of exposing one’s soul. Birthing a poem can bring us into solidarity with the core of humanity. Though I had not intended to publish my poems, my decision to do so was with the realization that all I have to lose is my ego.
Reading poetry calls forth a response which is often seen as respectful silence. With this kind of writing, we find we are not in control. We do not write poetry—it writes us, when we are listening.
The layout of the book is easy to follow and no sequential steps are needed in reading it. Look at the Table of Contents and jump right to the theme of the poems of interest…Hear-felt Places, Communication, Ponderings, Attestations of Love, Justice Expressions, Born of Nature, Meandering Heart, Haiku, Christmas Stirrings, Expression of Life’s Rhythms, Seasons of Our Lives, Metrical Cadence (Alliteration), Special People, Death. Browse, peruse, wade through, enjoy, be dazzled!
What Readers Are Saying About This Book
Janet is “Committed to Truth” in its purest essence and “Compelled to Justice: from the core of her being, her soul’s yearning sings out in her poetry and writings.” To know Janet and to read her poems written in the Presence of her God, is to receive the Better Portion indeed—Antonio G. Davis; JD, Obl., OSB, Cam., Spiritual Director
From Wendover winds to the harbors of Lake Michigan, Janet’s poetry stirs my fond memories. Excerpts from The Little Prince woven within a meandering spirit of poetry ... words to ruminate.
—Susan Slykerman; Friend, Librarian, Book Lover
In her introduction, Janet observes that “Poetry…gives expression to the deepest desires and feelings of the human heart and moves us to a place beyond where words take root.” May the words of her book take you to places that fill those desires of your heart.
—Rev. Ron Zanoni; Pastor St Andrew Catholic Community
Beautifully written poetry expressing deep spiritual connections through interactions with a higher being, nature, and each other.
